A & L won't give me my statements

Nearly 2 years ago A & L took £10 from my account for statements to be sent. They never arrived.

After persistent phone calls icon

, and a year one guy refunded the £10 and said the statements would be sent out free of charge.

I am still waiting - I have rang them and received a letter saying that it was being looked into and they would be in touch shortly.

That was months ago. What can I do?

Hi there

If it were me I would take a photocopy of the last letter they sent you, and write to them yet again, this time addressing it for the attention of the Customer Complaints Department (send your letter recorded delivery as well).

Along with your letter, send them the photocopy of the letter stating that they were looking into it for you, and remind them that you still haven't received a response.

Also if you made a note of the date and time, and the name of the guy you spoke to on the phone who said you would get the statements free of charge, put this in your letter too.

Let us know how you get on. I've dealt with A&L customer complaints myself and I found them to be efficient ... although I do accept that I am probably in a minority!

You can also request this information under the freedom of information act, by specifiying the freedom of information act in your request, a deadline is placed on A&L to provide this information, if they do not comply they face penalties.

Have just written a letter to credit card company too - I really don't know what I'm doing though, it scares me - and other half is leaving it to me (as per the norm)

Don't panic, a bit of reading and you will soon know what you need to do, and any worries along the way, just ask.

If you are going to send your SAR icon

, then enclose a £10 cheque or postal order.

They then have 40 days to send out your information. If they fail this, you can then file at court.

Thanks - it's really appreciated! Posted a letter to credit card company today - it took me ages to pluck up the courage to actually let it go at the post box. Must have looked odd to passers by. lol
