seat belt fine.
Hi everyone. I got pulled over by plod in my van today and was accused of having no seatbelt on, i had my seatbelt on from leaving home to the moment plod pulled me over. he was coming along a road 90 degrees to where i was waiting to pull out, and was about 35 feet from me when he claimed he saw me.
I am totally innocent, if i had not been wearing my belt i would have took it on the chin, but i am so angry as he has hit me with thec £30 fine, or go to court.
My question is if i go to court what is the worst they can throw at me? I can afford the fine but it's the principle of the matter, that these idiots can fine anyone and no one can argue as you cannot proove you had the belt on,
Best thing is my van has a black bulkhead and i was wearing a very dark blue jacket, so from that distance he would not have a clue wether i was or was not wearing a seatbelt. All comments appreciated.

A fine of up to £500
If you were to fight this, since it is basically your word against a PC's, I would have thought the best approach would be that the PC is not lying but mistaken, given the dark belt against dark clothing against black background. Perhaps some photograhic evidence showing this might help.
Was the police car an ordinary patrol or was it a traffic/area car with video cameras?
