I bought a washing machine in march 2008 and now it is broken. I called the engineer out and he advises that the machine is not covered under warranty. They claim some foreign object has got into the machine and put a hole in the drum. They state that they couldnt find anything on their inspection and assume that is the problem.
What can I do? I spent £380 on the machine and they claim that it is now going to cost me in the region of £200+ to have it repaired.
Do I have any comeback at the machine is only 7months old and they cant prove what went wrong only assume what they claim their expert engineer has detailed.
Well, if you can get your own engineer report which show that the reason for the Breakdown can be down to something else than what their engineer says, then you can go back to them and insist they fix it FOC. If they still refuse, then you'll have to take them to small claims court and it will be down to engineer report v engineer report and who the judge believes.
Apologies to people who I was in the process of helping, I may be gone some time.
It flooded my kitchen, and when the engineer came out he couldnt find any coins or the rest.
Is this a common problem with Hotpoint?
I have got another engineer out on monday to look at it. Dont get me wrong, I dont mind paying if it is our fault, I bought a new machine today so I am sorted that way, just feel ****ed off that it has broke after 7months..
hi , I've repaired quite a lot of these Hotpoint wf range as we used to buy a container load from Hotpoint for refurbishing every month , anyways back to the drum ,
In my past experience in these where the transit bolts enter the drum they sometimes get tighten too much , thus the drum leaks from here .
Not had many were drums crack , apart from when its coins that have cause it
Thanks for your reply, can I ask you if there is no damage to the inner drum and it is only the plastic underside of the casing that is cracked. It is a hole that is about an inch in diametre. I am pretty fussy about what I put in the machine and only wash very little as the main of my washing gets picked up and collected and brought back clean and ironed. The only thing with this is I have been using washing machines for years and only just got this one and its packed up already. It in only used about 2 times a week at most. So pretty annoyed that the machine cant cope with it.
If it hasnt been a coin or key or some other foreign object what could have caused it?
Thanks for all your help here, it is damaged when you tilt the machine so as looking at from the underside of the machine, it is damaged on the bottom next to a rounded bit.
I am not very technically minded on this type of thing.
