I used to have a bank account with Bank of Scotland which incurred a gold mine of charges since I went to uni in 1996 to 2000. I received a default notice sometime in 1999 or 2000 and was paying it off until 2001 or so. My problem is that I dont have any statements as I chucked them after I paid everything off and and now I dont have any record of my account number and HBOS are claiming to have no record of my account having ever existed.
I have tried repeatedly to give them as much information as possible both with a DPA letter with my full name DOB, and all addresses since account was opened. I have even made several phone calls to customer service (if you can call them that!) with no trace of my account. I explained to HBOS that I lost all my statements in a 'fire'.
I`m really at a loose end and any advice will be greatly received.

Is there any record of the default on your credit file - this might have a link back to your account (not seen one, so I'm not certain on this)?

Halifax 2nd a/c (£1500 charges + £150 interest on charges) - partial payment received 13/07/06 (no s69 interest) - AQ filed 07/08/06 - Court awarded 50% of s69 interest (Bank didn't turn up!)

The default wouldn't be removed until 5/6 years after it was issued, so there might still be a trace. The account record might still show if it wasn't paid off until 2001.

Ive just got a letter from HBOS saying that despite a full search of records, there is no trace of my account. I think it must have closed prior to June 2001 and they are probably just being awkward. I'm going to leave it at that I think. I`m focussing all my efforts on Barclaycard and Halifax now!
