Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
This is my first post and must say the site has been very helpful.
Anyway in January this year I purchased a display Canon Digital SLR 350D from Comet in Northampton. When I was paying the acting Manager advised that he would give me a bigger discount if I purchased the extended insurance. Given this was a discountined model I did ask what would happen if the item if declared a write off. He replied "You would get the replacement model." I do not normally take the insurance product as I have worked in the industry for nearly 30 years and most of the things covered are also covered in the Household Policy. Needless to say I agreed to it on this occassion.
In June/July my lovely Cocker Spaniel pulled it off the worktop smashing on the ceramic floor.
I took it back to Northampton who sent it off to Canon for a report. After a few weeks I was told it was not repairable and that I would get a call.
When they called they offered me a Canon Compact Camera. I said this was no good to me as I have Lens for my Camera. They asked what was the replacement model. When I told them that the 350 was replaced by the 400 they said this was more expensive and I would have to pay the difference. I informed them of what I was told at the time and they said I would have to take this up with the store direct.
When I did contact the store the lady Manager was most unhelpful and referered me to the Insurers. I said this is not an insurers issue. It resolves around what I was told to tempt me to purchase the insurance and the salesman getting the commission.
I have complained to there Service Centre and also to the Managing Director but they simply not interested.
I am therefore currently going through the Financial Ombudsman. So we will see what happens.
What annoys me more than anything is the Management not taking responsibility for the actions of their staff, who can simply say anything to get the sale and meet their targets. If it had been anyone else who sells Insurance Products they are bound by the FSA.
We will see what happens and would be interested in any advice.
