hi everyone. I need some advice on mastercare/coverplan vouchers. I have no idea where to post. Been trying to familiarize myself to the site for the past hour! Great job all of you nice people helping people with their problems Could someone tell me where I should post a thread about coverplan/mastercare currys vouchers lease. Thanks.
I offer help and advice in good faith, based on my knowledge and experience. I am NOT a legal or financial expert. There are many CAG members and site team who are better qualified. Please do not make major decisions based on my advice alone.I do not give advice via P.M's. If anyone can correct my mistakes or improve on my advice, please do.
Thanks for the replies and welcome. I'm finding this site quite difficult lol! must be in a thick mood. I didn't see a currys/dixsons site so thank you
Have a look at the How do I link in Saintly 1's post, that will keep you straight.
Good luck with that.
Regards.
Scott.
Thanks for the advice. I had a quick read of the posting for dummies link as advised but I will have a better read in a minute. I'm Abit impatient to post my question. But thanks because I now know how to post a thank you via leaf thingie
I will try my question here (save starting a new post) Hope thats ok.
I've received some vouchers from mastercare (coverplan vouchers) for a tv (5 1/2 years old) that could not be repaired. The six weeks I waited and called is a whole other story but once the six week period was up I called and asked for vouchers as I was entitled. The tv £1399. I am aware prices have come down considerably so I was no way expecting that but £599 is a joke! I phoned asking what model tv they thought I could buy with same spec and they wouldn't tell me. To cut a long story short, do they have to give me a tv with 3 scart sockets? And my old tv had dolby pro logic. two people in my family that had the exact same tv as me where given an allowance for surround sound when they claimed from their insurance. Any advice please?
The manager at my local currys tried to tell them I should get a surround system to meet my spec but they said no. He then tried to argue about the 3 scart sockets needed to meet my spec but the cheapest tv with 3 scarts costs £1200! The man on the phone said because the right people were not there as it was a saturday the manager of currys would have to call back. I wasn't even allowed to talk on the phone! Hope this makes sense
from what i remember of the vouchers they are ment to be equal to the value of a item currently on sale at the same specification as the old one or closest to.
alot of people seem to have luck arguing with coverplan over the value of the vouchers however i would recomend meeting in the middle if possible, for example if theres only one model with 3 scart sockets but its a flatscreen where the old one was a crt, they wont ussually go for it as they count it as an upgrade. however if you offer to go half way with them they are ussually more reasonable about it...
however from dealing with coverplan and hearing from people who have it depends on who you get, as i some of the people i know would probably have to argue very hard to get vouchers for a scart junction box, which are not the best and sometimes seem to have picture overlay ( or am i just buying too cheap a ones?)
summary
1) ring coverplan store staff are NOT much help in matters like this
2) be reasonable you will probably get further if you are polite than if you yell
3) dont get stuck on one specification, try to arange a meeting point half way
4) ring 0870 600 1550 theres an option for coverplan dont pick that your products broken or it'll send you to tech support
5) good luck

hi Labrat, thanks for the reply. I was quite annoyed yesterday when I wrote my post but have since calmed down and realise I'm quite lucky after nosing around on this forum. I was expecting at least £150 more as my sister recently claimed through her insurer and got £750 for the exact same tv.
Another reason why I was so angry is the terrible customer service. I was on the phone for 45 minutes (10p a minute) and no one could even tell me the model tv they quoted me the money for. They say they will put you through to a different department then your back where you started! grrr I had a £70 phone bill last month from calling 0870 numbers. Mastercare doesn't seem to have a clue what they're doing. They had my tv for 6 weeks I couldn't find out anything. I ended up using the 6 week rule.
Anyway the tv they suggested is quite nice so I'm quite happy but I'm seriously thinking of not getting any extra warranty because I hate the lack of respect they show their customers! After reading on this forum the horror stories I count my blessings.
