    Default MBNA phoned my workplace

I am so annoyed. Got told in front of a few other workers when I was passing the receptionist that 'your bank phoned - Alliance and Leicester. they've been trying to contact you.' and gave me a post-it pad with a number and name on it.

I was fuming! I still am.

I phoned and got some company in India called Aegis who said they represent MBNAicon basically. (and Alliance and Leicester). I tried t get through to person who left her name but was refused by first operator who insisted I wnt through security to get to speak to this person. Yeah sure. He also tried to get me to give him my mobile number. Fat chance.

Then phoned main MBNA - got through t operator who started quite well once I said I'm in work and I am not going to discuss my account over phone. She then got all defensive when I said I wanted written confirmation they would remove my works number immediately. She refused to give written confirmation. I said harrassment etc and she tried to say they were allowed to as many years ago i stupidly put details where details were asked to be on application forms.

Now I've phoned OfCom who say they only look into patterns but took details from me and I have a handy Ofcom reference for the future. I have made an online complaint with ICO (that will take months). I have a telephone harassment letter ready to post MBNA tomorrow (normal post or special?). Have mentioned in letter I will ahve no alternative but to seek true copyof CCA if the calls do not stop. Haven't pursued them but now am seriously annoyed with them.

Is there anything else I should do?

Not experienced anything from MBNA before. Any feedback about what they are like regarding calling???

I don't want to depress you willtheywontthey but these b******s are more than happy to harass you at work so that they can force you to call them. They really shouldn't do this but there may not be too much to stop them for the time being. You could always brazen it out with your workplace on the basis that you are challenging unlawful charges, they won't play, so you've refused to pay them. At least then you might get the sympathy of your colleagues and maybe a bit of support in terms of telling them to f**k off.

Do you have online banking? If so, you could try changing your details on there. Also, do you have the option for voicemail at work, or is it a shared number?

You must of course send off the telephone harassment letter, but it will not necessarily stop the calls.

    Good luck.

    Regards.

    Fred

    hi

thanks for all the advice. My last statement says last month's payment gone through and next is due in a week or two. Had no letter off them saying bank did not honour payment (will check bank later) so thin it's really OTT for them to phone my workplace Got a letter from this Indian call centre (Aegis or something) today telling me to pay and not to write to them but i HAD to phone them once [ayment made .. or else sort of attitude.

I am minded to now ask MBNAicon for my CCA and do a SARicon - they are one of the few I did not do this to as I was not getting any bother. Now they have got my goat so to speak!!!

If I were you I would save myself 10 quid and just CCA them for the time being. The chances are that you will find they have an unenforceable agreement.

Still no reply from MBNAicon etc

Had a call yet again from Aegis last night.. the operator was getting quite agitated.. I was in the right frame of mind to give some grief. Loved the way she said she was in India and quoted the Data Protection Act but got completely flummoxed when I asked which country's DPA she was referring to.

She also got completely confused when I kept saying I was recording the call... 'yes Mrs XXXX we are recording our calls for quality control etc purposes...' 'No - you do not understand - I am recording these calls.'
    and on and on...........

Had to stop her from hanging up quite a few times for the fun of it

    Hi Willtheywontthey!
I had a lot of telephone harrasement at my work place too from MBNAicon as well as calls at home from them. They told my colleagues that they were MBNA so everyone at my workplace knew i was in serious debt arrears! As a resullt i had quite a few upsets at work ,One of MBNAS main tactic seem to be to try and attempt to embaress and humiliate people in their workplace!Things got a lot worse before they got better as MBNA set another agency on me called RMA and they were unbelievable as they constantly phoned me at work inb spite of being told not to by my boss! One day my boss called me to his office and told me in the space of one day he had had ten phone callsicon from RMA in spite of telling them each time that they were not to phone me at work and that i did not want or take any calls at work!I was advised by this forum to send them a telephone harrasement letter and try and get my boss to write to them as well!and in my case after a while it did some good! i sent MBNA and RMA a telephone harrasement letter and my boss wrote to RMA as well! The calls from RMA stopped both at work and at home after these letters reached them! MBNA sent me a letter telling me that they had removed my work number from their systems!but that they informed me that they still had the right to phone me at home from time to time to remind me about my debts!I did get a few calls at home after that but now they do seem to be phonning me a lot less often! I think they realise that they were way out of order arranging their agents to phone me ten times in one day even by MBNA standards and wouldent look vey good on them if i took it further.so io think they are a bit worried about pestering me on phone! so in my case it did do some good to write that telephone harrasement letter and to also let my boss contact them!so hpefully that might work for you as well ! Though it does take a while for MBNA to act on it!

Groovycaz (and anyone else getting calls from MBNAicon(

Make sure you keep detailed records of calls (date, time, name of agent) if MBNA start or continue harassing you by phone.
