Default Council Tax Rules on Empty property please

Can anyone tell me the rules about paying council tax on an empty property please ?
My siblings & I have lost both our parents around 2 years ago & a part of the estate is a small bungalow. It is currently on the market. No one lives in it.
At the moment our parents furniture & belongings are still in there. It’s obvious that the place is unused & proof of death can be shown. The estate is still in probateicon.
Although I am on benefits (when they decide to reinstate it) my Brother & sister aren’t.
Either way, we don’t want to pay more into the councils coffers than we need to.
The property has its own borehole for water & septic tank – no water rates.
    Any ideas please ?
    Thanks for reading,,,,

The property will be exempt from date of death for either 6 months or until probateicon is granted whichever comes first. After that the estate will be liable or if the property is transferred into someones name then that person is liable.

    Thanks for the quick reply,,,,,,

My landlord said something similar, but I was hoping for a better reply, more in favour of 'us' than 'them'.

    cheers

    Hi Furkin
contact your local authority and get them to confirm their stance on the matter. ( you may find it also explains some of this on the back of your council tax bill).
