    Default Sky to Sky+ Upgrade

I've had Sky for years and decided to get Sky+, rang Sky and was quoted £250, told them I had been a customer for years (on the top package, every channel going) they said it didn't carry any weight.

Friend at work said she also enquired and was told the same so she cancelled, they put her through to cancellations who took her all the way through the cancellation and 20 minutes later she got a call saying she could have a free upgrade.

I tried it and got exactly the same, they take you all the way through the cancellation, even arrange a cut-off date and then 10 minutes later they ring you and offer you a free upgrade if you stay with them.

So if you are thinking of upgrading from Sky to Sky+ and want a free upgrade you might want to cancel first.

    Hi,

This is very common with a number of companies.

What we refer to as the cancelations department is actually known as the retention department by these companies!

You can try it with broadband and mobile phoneicon companies, it usually works!

    Regards, Jeff.

Worked with Virgin Media and my Broadband ....... I get it for half the price I was paying for before all because we got one of those offer leaflets through the door the same day as the bill came through and Mr Saintly took objection to the fact that new subscribers could get the same deal we had for a lot less than we were paying especially since we have been a cable customer for over 10yrs

Any typos spelling mistakes are due to leprechauns in my keyboard they move the letters around sometimes (amended just for Bookie)

i phoned sky to tell them i was moving home and i was wanting to cancel my subscription, they told me it was £60 to get sky installed in my new house, when i told them i wasnt interested they gave me free install (£60) and gave me a free sky+ box (£75)

as far as i hear if you phone up and try to cancel due to the "credit crunch" they give you a reduced subscription fee for 3 months with the same package !!!! only if you arent still in your 12 month min subscription

I've been with sky for a while now ... we had got the full package with sky+ and two multirooms.
Last week, a colleague at work decided to upgrade to HD...they did an okish deal with the box costing £75 + free fitting + free 3 month half price for the full package.

Decided I would do the same... we just passed the phne over and I got the same deal

Another colleague decided to then also push his sky standard to sky +...he got a quote of £150 including fitting + 3 months 1/2 price.
Didn't make sense as HD was half the price.
After thinking about it... he decided to also go for the HD package and is now in the process of buying a HD TV.

    Amazing how things work sometimes

On October 20th I sent an email saying I was unhappy that there were great incentives for people to join Sky but that as a loyal customer for nearly 15 years I was offered nothing. In response to my email I received a phone callicon on October 27th offering me SKY+HD installed for £49.
I refused and stated that I wanted to cancel my account at which point a 30 day cancellation notice was applied.
On October 29th I called back to say I had been hasty and would actually like to take up the offer, I was informed it was a point of call offer only, to cut a long story short as a gesture of goodwillicon I was offered SKY+HD at £49 installed.
I was absolutely delighted that Sky obviously valued my customer loyalty.
It was then explained to me that I would need a HD television and an additional HD subscription. (I thought the HD box could enable any TV become HD!)I explained that I did not have a HD TV so was offered an additional SKY+ box for £49.
Notes were made on the account at this point that I would call back as I could not find my debit card.In the mean time my husband decided to order a HD television, so I tried unsuccessfully to call back in the evening but was on hold for a long time and had to leave for work.
So the following morning- October 30th I called to say that I could actually accept the HD box and to make payment, after an hour on the phone I was told that I could no longer have that offer and that I would have to pay £99 + installation or I could have the HD box for £49 and take out an additional multi room subscription -which I don’t need as I have all ready got multi room.
Stalemate-they have now accepted my cancellation
