Default Bank Charges From Abbey National Help!

    Hi

Just Received my statement from Abbeyicon and found i was overdrawn twice one for £1.56 and another for £6.51.
I've had £75.00 charges put on my account, went to the my local bank and was told they cant do anything as the new goverment law says they cant refund charges anymore.
I'm on incapacity benefit and can't afford to lose that sort of money out of my account.

Can anybody give me a bit of advice.

    Gaz

Default Abbey Bank Charges On Benefits Help Please!!!!!!

    Hi

Been charged bank charges out of my benefits.
I did send Abbeyicon a letter quoting the the 1992 Benefits act about banks taking money out of Benefits payments.
I had a reply today stating that all charges are being looked at by the Goverment, they also sent me clippings from Newpapers showing this.

Can anybody give me any advice what to do.

    Gaz

Which is complete rubbish. They are supposed to deal with any cases that involve hardship. I would now raise your claim with the fosicon.

This is a standard response. Did you explain to Abbeyicon that you are in financial hardship and enclose an income and expenditure form?

Firstly, any bank can if they wish refund any charges incurred! Only two weeks ago my collegue went to her bank asking for refund (admittedly was her first charges) and they obliged.

Secondly, hardship cases must be dealt with- get it in writing that they accept your hardship and still refuse to reimburse you!

If they are stating what you say you need it in writing. Send all correspondance via letter that is recorded.

    Hi Rory & Gogivit

I sent the Template letter about the interesticon must not be taken out due to the 1972 act. But i never sent any income to support this, but i did receive a from Natwesticon an income form to fill in.
I did phone up and was put on to there overseas switchboard, all i got out of them was you must make sure your account is in credit.

You do really have to fill in an income and expenditure form, so you can show them you are having hardship.

There is one in the link Rory gave you.

Is there an update on this one Gazza ?

When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition, they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to have happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI Insurance has been sorted. Now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.

    Hi CitizenB

Yes there are update to this, Abey took £40 out of my account again.
This was due to the charging me the first month bringing me just overdrawn, then refunding me £35 bringing me back into credit, but because the original charges took me over they decided to take £40 out for the sake of it.
Funny you asked about updates i received a letter yesterday from Abbeyicon same person, saying he can't see where i'm in hardship and the charges are fare.
Here's the letter i received yesterday.

So i don't know where to go from here, as writing to this person just like talking to a brickwall.

write to them and "DEMAND" ( milton keynes address ) it is forwarded to the "HARDSHIP TEAM" was set up in early september, if you are on Benifits, normaly takes 4 - 6 weeks to get resolved or if you ring C/S and tell them you are a hardship case and get them to refer your case to the "HARDSHIP TEAM"

    or the email customerservice@abbey.com

and give them info etc of your situation and ask them to get the HARSHIP TEAM" to ring you are a "HARDSHIP CASE" when they ring you they can take all your details etc over the phone , benifits and out-goings etc etc
