    Angry Static caravan insurance ripoff

    Hi All,
We've just renewed our static caravan insurance through an independant company rather than the caravan park (at a third of the price!) and this is allowable under site "rules".
Normally they ask for a copy of the schedule, however this year they are also demanding a £30 fee to "cover additional administration costs" .
I realise that caravan site owners can get away with m*rder but do consumer rights offer any protection against this demand?
    Thanks
    Andy

I would ask for a full Breakdownicon to justify this additional administration, I don't think that they are allowed to do this as I suspect that it is a penalty charge.

If they come back with a breakdown, post it up here and let us look at it

Whilst in principal I agree with Lula but I must sound a note of caution. Most caravan sites have routes to evict their tenants and cause them more hell than you can imagine. Fighting such behaviour can lead to an expensive, long & tiresome court battle.

If it's £30, I personally, in this case would pay it and be done with it.

I am normally not like this and recommend fighting almost everything, but this is one occasion when that could be problematic.

Whatever you do, please keep us posted & Best of Luck!

does it state in the site terms and conditionsicon that the fee is payable? if not, they LP's advice is sound, but I would gently talk to the site owners and see if they cannot come to some compromise, I have to say that, if you are happy with the site then for the want of £30, the hassle of moving isnt worth it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll probably pay up and informally ask for a Breakdownicon. I'll still be well in pocket over the onsite quote and am concerned about "upsetting" the owners.
It's about time static caravan owners had some sort of protection - at the moment, park owners can pretty much do as they wish.
