Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I recently parked in the Truman brewery and made sure I was back on time - to my horror I had been issued with a parking ticket - my ticket that I had place on the dash had blown over and was not visable - I tried to get the attendant to come over to confirm that I have come back on time - his only response was the robotic 'just appeal' which of course I did, only to get the standard your ticket needs to be displayed and another ticket seems a little harsh (£50 - soon to rise to £100 if not paid within 14 days) but if we do it for you etc - `i sent a copy of the ticket that I had paid - any by looking at some of your threads it wold seem that I entered a contract and paid for my space - the company lost no revenue which I can prove but they still want to charge me £50 which I was just going to pay until I found your web site. Does anyone think I have a chance of taking this further and getting charge cleared or shall I just make them for for the £100 which it will be as I loose the right to the discount if I continue to appeal! and advice please.
I would stand your ground on this as i have had this problem myself as you dont tend to look at your ticket on the dash when you slam your door when leaving.
write a letter that you are contacting trading standards & you are also going to a solicitor about this as you have a ticket as proof of payment & have tried explaining but they are not even trying to help or be reasonable.
Also tell them that you are willing to go to court & will see them there & to send any more letters to your solicitor.
Send this as a reply to any further letters you receive from them & dont sit back & take anymore crap .If it gets to the baliffs letters send a letter to the baliffs & tell them you are disputing this & to contact there clients not you ,then look at a harrassment case against them, you are well within your rights, good luck & stay strong:
oh if you can,t afford a solicitor go to citizens advise they are always happy to help & im sure other members will give good advice also
regards m
Hi I believe this is a private parking notice and is not worth the paper that it is written on if it was a real parking ticket you would be able to appeal in person. As for bailiffs they could only be brought in when they had taken you to court and obtained a CCJ that you had not paid. I have only seen a few cases go to court for PPC and of those only the ones that did not defend had to pay.
Thank you all so much for your replies and support, was at this car park today and spotted the over zealous car park attendant being dragged to a car buy this poor woman who had like me not displayed her ticket correctly, I could not resist, I went over to her while he was telling her to appeal!!! o yes that old chestnut - I informed them both that the company does not accept appeals and told him to stop telling people to claim to get them off his back - even felt like following him round and paying for tickets to stick on windscreen that he was looking at!! I hate sweating the small stuff and how these people just jump on your back to hassel you when everyone has got more important things to do than fight with these con artists - the woman and I swapped numbers - solidarity rules - thanks again - was just about to pay the fine before I found your site - will let you know the outcome - Think I will stick a notice on all the machines on the car park seemed like about 1 in ten cards had a notice on them!!
