Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi there,
I have settled/satisfied accounts showing on my credit report, some are around 4 years.i was just wondering if anybody could tell me how if can get these removed and would it improve my credit score once they are gone.I understand the 6 year rule but i have been told that some companies will remove them if write to them asking nicely..
Is there a template anywhere for this type of letter.....
Did you make late payments on the accounts? That would lower the score slightly. What would your reasons be for having the information removed?
Quite a few people are fighting to have defaults removed, but usually due to a lack of credit agreement and therefore no permission to record data or because the info recorded is factually incorrect.
Defaults, CCJs, bankruptcy etc are the most damaging pieces of info that you can have on your file.
I'm midway through the tunnel, but getting closer to the light.
They are accounts that had defaults which have now been settled, most were settled around 4 years back.I do have 2 ccj's on there...for not renewing car tax or declaring them SORN when they were not on the road(which is pretty ridiculous) in my opinion...
My position with debt has changed alot, and for the better since most of these debts were cleared 4 years back, but yet i still struggle to finance things because of my previous history....
Lots of 'Settled' accounts does not look good because it doesn' tell potential creditors the full story. If the account is settled or closed they do indeed have to remove the information if asked.
I had 2 defaults which were settled and about 4 years old. I found that by writing a polite letter and asking them that due to the age of the defaults (and in my case the size of them) and that they were settled, would they be prepared to remove them, which they agreed to do!
Sometimes the softly softly approach works, there is no harm in trying.

I quite agree. Sometimes being gentle does work and if not, then call in the big guns! Thanks for sharing that Bobby and well done!

Hi I too am about to settle three defaults. I have got very mixed messages . when they are settled they will be 4 or five years old. is it ture that if you write to the companies they are supposed to remove them or is this false information. I would really like to get a mortgage when they are satified. It would be better if they were removed. Is there a template letter for removing satified defaults anywhere. i know about removing unsatified defaults but not satisfied defaults .
