    Default Possible Windfall

    Hi
My friend recently had to consolidate debts totalling £20,000

He then sent a cheque for £11,000 to one bank only to have it returned back to his account.

He called the bank to check why the money had been returned.

They said his account was zero'd and account was closed.

His existing bank who got the cheque returned said to sit tight.

Could he be £11,000 up???? or can the bank who closed his account demand the money back.

    Cheers
    Al

If it were me, I'd deposit the money into a savings account and wait. It would be a bad idea to otherwise spend it for the next six years, because sods law means once you have, you'll be asked to make repayments.
