Default Is gambling an illness under the hardship rules?

    Hi all,

Thank you for a great and very informative site. I have been an avid reader but never posted anything. I was on a very similar site with many helpful members, and want to gather the expertise of your forum.

I am/was a compulsive gambler, I have stayed "clean" for four months now and attend a GA fellowship for support and guidance.

I am trying to put together the misery of debts I have left behind me and would like to re-claim my bank charges. As part of the waivericon I believe to claim hardship you could claim under serious illness.

My question is, would being a compulsive gambler constitute as a serious illness. By definition gambling is a compulsive addiction and in many cases is defined as an illness. Should I go down this route? Or can I?
17 yrs of gambling leaves a long trail and getting back ontop of things is high on my list of prioritys.

All the best and thanks again for a great site!

    Stew

Welcome, and well done on stopping gambling for so long. Looking at this link from the BMA itBMA - Gambling addiction and its treatment within the NHS: A guide for healthcare professionals, January 2007

Seems gambling itself is not an illness, but there can be illnesses associateed with it.

When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
