Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi, my name is Nicole, but everyone calls me Nikki.
ok where to begin, last week my wages were paid in but the bank said they weren't (not even pending) so they bounced every single one of my bills and charged me for the privilage (sp). So now after 2 sets of wages have gone in I'm still sitting at £-200 and I still need to pay most of my bills.
I called customer service, that was a joke. She treated me like something she'd stepped in and ask 'well what's your excuse?'. Said they would refund one of the charges.
After talking to lots of people they all said that claiming the money back was the right way to go and I'm so glad I found your site, right now you are my sanity.
I've tracked down all my bank statements and here's what they've charged me in the past 2 years:
Oh my goodness I didn't realise it was that much, no wonder I'm always skint!!
Just about to write the first letter and attach the schedule of charges (does the schedule have to be very detailed ie date charged, what for, and amount?)
Sounds like you've had a right old time of it, but at least you're in the right place now .
What a cheek 'what's your excuse' - Bookworm will love that one
The schedule of charges is the spreadsheet in the Libraries section (Vampiresss'). The spreadsheet has two pages, the first one for your claim now, but it also calculates 8% interest, which you only use at MCOL stage.
Hi Nikki and welcome. If you have any problems with the spreadsheet there is a thread in the General forum where you can get help if you need it. Make sure you have a parachute account ready as A&L will close your account. Good luck.
When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
Should you be offered help that requires payment please report it to site team.

Thanks Mumofthreeboys and Caro, opened up my parachute account on Friday after reading everyone elses's stories, thought it was best to do it before I started anything.
Applied for my third job today to make ends meet!! Fingers crossed I get it.
Ok so I finally sent the first letter on 12/09/06 and received their response today (16/09/06) ...................
Dear Mr and Mrs Lovatt
Account Number xxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you for contacting us regarding your account.
I have noted your comments that you believe the charges that have been raised on you account to be unfair, please be assured our charges are reasonable and are competitive with the charges made by other financial organisations.
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has commented that they conside the level of late payment charges to be unfair, however they were acrually referring to the late payment fees for credit card payments, which are quite distinct from a bank's charges on current accounts.
As yet, the OFT have not entered into any discussions with the banking industry regarding current accounts. However, should that position change in the future, then Alliance & Leicester will particiapate as appropriate.
Given the above, I cannot accept that you have been unfairly charged as you suggest. I regret, therefore, that I am unable to agree to your request for a refund of charges on this occasion.
I am sorry if you are disappointed with my response, but as the charges have been raised correctly in line with the terms and conditions of your account, they must stand.
Yours Sincerely
M McCormick

Since my first post the charges have just escalated and the schedule of charges I sent them ended up being for £1,746!
Needless to say I disagree with the man.
yes it is the lba next, just follow the steps on here as it works. They will then reply again saying the same sort of thing as the first one. Thats when you file your claim and add the 8% interest. You can do this by filing an N1 with the courts or doing it online at www.moneyclaim.gov.uk
Good Luck, not that you'll need it!!

It's obviously a difficult time for you, Nikki, but try to keep your chin up. Everyone here is behind you 100%.
If good thoughts can really help others, then you will be fine, 'cause I'm sending lots your way!
When you get letters like that, and snotty customer 'service' reps talk to you that way, it makes it all sooooo much sweeter when you get all the money back plus interest.
The more they dig their heels in, the more money you get back.
