Default Credit limit stopped -no notice

I have had a barclaycard for over 2 years with a £2000 credit limit. I have never gone over my credit limit and always paid on time except for 15 months ago when my cards were stolen and I was the victim of identity fraud. I informed them asap and paid the late payment a few days late - since then I have always paid on time and more than the minimum payment. My last balance was £1900 so I paid £1000 off. I intended to use the card on holidayicon - when I tried to use it it was declined!!! I phoned customer services and they told me that my credit limit had been reduced to £1000 - they said they had sent me a letter but I did not receive it - when it came it was dated after they had received my last payment and spoken to me on the phone! I wassss left in a real mess on holiday!!! Is there anything I can do? They refuse to tell me why they did this - is there anyway I can find out?

Hi Thea and welcome to CAGicon.

BC can alter your credit limit at their discresion but they should give you fair notice of any change.

You could speak to Cust'r Services for an explanation of why they have reduced the limit but I don't know if you'll get it. We've seen before BC cutting credit limits immediately after receiving a large payment.

If they won't restore the higher limit, you could make a complaint on the basis that you've previously kept the a/c in good order.

It may also be worth checking to see if your credit records show any default or late pay't markers.
