Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I have an Egg Credit card, which was taken out around 2002, and like other, an wondering whether the agreement is enforceable, and whether the balance can be cleared.
I have trawlled through the pages on this site - all of which are helpful, but I have ended up getting a bit confused as to the actual process, template letter to use, and in which order things come.
Can anyone provide a pointer to an idiots guide for this type of thing with steps needed, i.e. Step 1 send "x" template letter. Step 2 wait x days, Step 3 etc....
Also, has anyone had any recent experiance of having their Egg card balance cleared?
I have also seen the numerous firms offering to do this for me for anything between £99 - £495, some with no further fees, others who want 30% of any compensation - ouch!
What experiences have other had. Should I chance my arm with these firms, or can I really do this myself.
I received my agreement from Egg earlier this week and it is enforceable. I took the card out in 1999 so I wuold expect that yours is probably in the same format, BUT don't let that stop you double checking.
I simply wrote a letter to them in Derby asking for a true certified copy of the original agreement relating to account number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
You should also enclose a cheque or postal order for £1

Hope that helps,
Let me know how you get on?
Best wishes,

You appear to be very proactive here at the moment. I hope things work in your favour.
With regards to obtaining a copy of my agreement, do I have to quote any legal mumbo jumbo?
Also, what do they need to produce, is it just a copy of my agreement, or is also a full history of transactions?
The £1 payment - I assume postal order is best, as I have read that you should not sign anything?
You don't need to quote any legal mumbo jumbo as they will know exactly what you want. As long as you make sure it is certified copy of the original agreement that you ask for you will be ok.
A postal order is ok or if you have a partner and a joint account, get them to sign the cheque for you.
Send it at the very least recorded delivery if possible, guaranteed next day.
I hope you have better luck with them than I have. They have been horrible trying to negotiate with and I really wanted to stick both fingers up at them.

Sorry but yes you do. I cant seem to find the template in the library but goes something like this:
