    Default sky/phone/broad band which provider

as i am moving soon i would like to start sorting out the phone etc.

on reading the horror stories about talk talk and orangeicon, can you recomend on price and service which company offers the best service/package for telephone/broad band/sky tv.
i dont want to end up in contract with a lousy provider.
where i am, i am not in a cable area

    many thanks

As far as broadband goes. My experience is that the smaller companies are usually much better at looking after their customers. My favourite is Fast (I'm a newbie here and can't post URLs it's fast dot co dot uk - they're not the cheapest but they only ask for a 3 month contract and their customer service is superb. I don't work for them! and am not connected to them in any way. I have used their service and thought it very good.

For TV, you have the options of Sky, Virgin Media or some TV over the broadband from BT and Tiscali [I believe those are the only two].

I agree with 'consumerchampion' that generally the smaller the better the provider. So if you want TV you aren't going to get it from a small provider!

Also, the cheapest deals are going to be bundled the lot, though not necessarily in fact most likely not, the best customer service.

I currently use broadband from Nildram which is incidentally owned by Tiscali but uses different billing system and telephone customer support. I only switched two months ago but am not thrilled by the customer support, though not overly depressed.

Tiscali itself are crap, as are TalkTalk and BT. Most providers are owned by one of the big ones. I was with Demon [Thus PLC] and have issued a court claim against them last week - so no recommendations there.

I use The Phone Co-op for landline who have been good overall, rectified the few mistakes pretty quickly. They also offer broadband.

I try not to bundle the services together, as I find - as the Which? has found - when you get bundled services you get a better price but worse customer service.

It's a gamble. It depends whether you want the cheapest or best. You won't get both!

I have just moved all my services to Sky. TV, Broadband and Phone (including line rental)
TV (no premium package) £16 pm
    BB Max Unlimited £10 pm
    Phone Anytime £10 pm
    Line rental £10 pm

Not a bad price I think. I have no feedback yet on the service but will post any problems.

You'll find a lot of haters and very few lovers from my experience. Never tried them myself, heard too many horror stories.

Sorry to disappoint, but that's the way it is with most companies in this country unfortunately!

I have been with BT for years. I changed purely because of the £1.50 for not paying by DD and the £7.50 late payment charge by BT.
I challenged this last year an got the £7.50 back and a nice phone callicon saying that I will never pay the late payment charge again. I was away in May when the bill came in so I was again charged the £7.50 for late payment. When I phoned them and pointed out that I do not pay the charge it was again refunded. Again in July I missed the payment date by a couple of days and again £7.50 fee. Now that I have all my services with Sky, I am paying off my bill with BT at £10 per month, less of course the late payment fees.

I'm with Virgin and get phone TV and Broadband for £20 (its only the basic package but it does me). Quite simply, there is nothing cheaper available.

I'm with Tiscali, currently considering going to Virgin

I think that fibre optic cable is probably more reliable than copper wire & splitter

Dunno about that but I've not had any trouble with mine except for the constant restarting the computer everytime the settop box was updated. That was an old one though and since they gave us a spanky new one I've not had any probs at all.

Well considering I agree with you there and both are just as bad as each other - Tiscali from experience and Virgin from what I've heard - you're improving your service a bit with the infrastructure.

I can't switch to Virgin cable as they don't have any cables in my road, otherwise I would have done so long ago.
