    Default Big problem with A+L

    Hi all,

I hope I'm posting this in the right thread, although mainly concerns my credit references.
I have the same problem as many have whereby I have been charged £5 a day over several months for going overdrawn by a few pounds. This accumulated to the total cost of £405.
I went through the process of disputing the charges and my case is now on hold (as far as Im aware) and now, it seems, I have to wait at least until January before any ball can begin rolling!
The big problem is that A+L have damaged my credit score so much over this that Im unable to get even the basic current bank accounts with other banks. I have a 'Basic Account' with HSBCicon which I used as an umbrella account while these charges were going on. However, Im being refused debit cards, cheque books, basically everything.
The entry on my experian credit report shows that the file has been 'updated' as being a late payment as recently as 03/08/2008, even though the dispute has been in the pipeline since february/march time. Also the rest of my credit file is absolutely spotless, this is the only thing that could be classed as 'negative' on my report.
Is there anything I can do about this? This is really hurting me bad and Im sure that they cant destroy my credit rating like this. Ive had to resort to getting a joint account with a family member just to be able to use a switch card!
I could just pay the £405 but even then I cant guarentee that my credit score will be altered. Im really stuck!
I noticed the 'default' template thats in the 'sticky' section of this forum but wasn't sure if that applied to me or where/if I should send it.
Any responses would be really appreciated!

    Thank you,
    ChrisB

Try this link guys - it's not A+L but the principle is the same it's also a general 'sticky' by Bankfodder on the Banks site

    http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...defaulted.html

It looks like you may have already been into this one - just adjust the template to suit your circumstances , but keep the main gist of the letter the same.........

    Redbull565,

from bitter experience, hang onto the money because your credit score is recorded with Experian or Equifax (there is another major player but I cant remember its name) and the only people that can alter it is A+L. You can get a free copy of the information held on you by Experion so get that before you do anything.

The only other suggestion I can make is that you get a written agreement from them to alter the credit information which I'm 99% certain they won't do.

Whoever they have recorded your default against insist that the information is accurate and factual and the fact is that regardless of the circumstances, the information is factual as far as A+L are concerned.

There ought to be something done about credit reference agencies, companies are allowed to record 'bad payment' details against you with no arbitration which wrecks lives for 6 yearsicon which is the period of time they hold your records for.

I have some missed payments with Capital Oneicon recorded against me when I was in dispute with them over information they gave me over the phone. I even contacted the financial Ombudsmanicon about it who admitted to me over the phone that they knew there was a problem with mis-information given by call centre operatives but they couldn't do anything about it.

I have a relative who lives in Bermuda and she can't believe what we put up with in this country and she lives in a real global financial hotspot.

Been screwed by banks all my life, it's payback time!!!!

OK as I seem to be handing out advice here I guess I had better add a disclaimer to my signature, Caro, hope you don't mind but I nicked yours.
