Hello there folks. I have what appears to be a relatively common problem.

I'm being pursued by two different debt recovery firms for a council tax debt relating to 1999.

I absolutely, definitely do not owe the council in question CT for that period.

What can I do about it?

I should add that, to the best of my knowledge I have never even received any kind of demand from the council itself in relation to this supposed debt.

Just 2 x letters from 'Debt Managers Ltd', whcih I ignored assuming them to be chancer, followed by a letter from SCotCall.

It is very unusual for a council not to ask a court to issue a liabilty order for unpaid council tax.

However, as this is being chased by debt collectors and not by bailiffs, then it looks as if they failed to do so on this occassion and have sold it on.

The period of time would make this statute barred and they cannot collect.

Just continue to ignore them unless you wish to make it known that they out of time (which they already know).
