Thread: Woolwich Mortgage account

Hi, Iam wondering wether the early settlemebt charges on my mortgage account are lawfull ?
I had a woolwich mortgage for 12 months, then when I wanted to move house again the Woolwich declined ne a new mortgage with them thus forcing me to change lenders and cough up £6000 in early redemption charges. This far out weighed any saving I had over the 12 month period with my initial fixed rate mortgage. I did not want to go to another lender, I had not defaulted. I had one moth arreas on my account at the time because I had asked for a payment holiday to which they agreed due to unexpected redundancy. when I explained that they had agreed they said that was the dept i had contacted to help me in my circumstances and that if i had asked the lending dept they would have told me of the consequences of having a payment holiday!
I now want to claim this back if poss??

From what I have read it may well be possible to reclaim mortgage redemption fees (early settlement fees) and there is already quite a discussion about this in the mortgage forum http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...age-companies/
