Buildings Insurance - Can I claim against an old policy?
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone can advise me if it's possible to claim against an old insurance policy that was in place at the time an incident occurred.
A bit of background is that my later father's home was damaged by a flood caused by the threft of the plumbing during a break in in the flat above his, this dates back to 2006 and buildings insurance was in lace at the time, but my father never submitted a claim.
Is there any legal basis on which I can submit a claim now? and if so, is thee any particular letter that I should use to submit the claim?
Re: Buildings Insurance - Can I claim against an old policy?
It is generally accepted practice (or at least it was a few years back) that the policy which is used is the one which was running at the time of the event giving rise to the loss.
However, whether a claim would be successful is a different matter given the time that has passed.
Re: Buildings Insurance - Can I claim against an old policy?
might be difficult, as no claim was submitted at the time for flood damage, they can argue that any further damage that has occurred could have been prevented.
If only claiming for the damage at the time of the claim and nothing further it would also depend on the amount claiming for and for what etc, reason for delay in claiming etc
