    Default Business PPi

    Hi,
In 2004 I decided to start my own business but unfortunately didn’t have enough capital to fund the start-up nor did I own any assets to put down as security for a bank loan. I needed £70,000 and only had £20,000 in savings, so I approached Lloydsicon TSB about taking out a Small Firms Loan Guarantee Scheme Loan for the remaining £50,000. A salesman from Lloyds came to see me and we went through a few things about the business and told me that I met the criteria needed to be eligible for the funding, but I would need to take out their Business Loan Repayment Insurance with the premium of £8900.84 added to the loan. Altogether with arrangement fees and legal fees my application to the DTI was for £60,000 which was approved in September 2004. With this type of loan you pay the DTI 2% of the out standing loan as a premium every quarter for the life of the loan which in my opinion is an insurance policy in itself. So why would I need a Business Loan Repayment Insurance? Over the last few years I have asked Lloyds this question and they tell me it’s different.. I have now spoken to the Financial Ombudsmanicon Service about this and they think I have a very good case and sent me a complaint form to fill in. My question is although I have verbally complained to Lloyds I have not sent in a letter of complaint, should I do this or just straight to the F.O.S??
