Hi, wonder if anyone would be kind enough to give me some advice on this matter:
I came off incapacity benefit on the 19th June and immediately made a claim for JSA, had to go through usual process, waiting for money etc. On the 4th of July I was due to sign but had an asthma flare up that night and so phoned my local office to explain I would be unable to attend, was told by an advisor that a form would be sent that I needed to fill in and to return which would excuse me for that day. All went well apart from the form didn't turn up and had to phone them for another so I took the thing in personally a couple of days before I was due to sign next. Heard nothing and signed on fine and money went into my bank this week, however i received a letter on Wednesday from them saying that they could not pay me JSA from the day I was sick. I phoned them to ask what was going on and they said because it had not been over 4 weeks before I came off IB, my claim was closed down and I would have to make a fresh claim, however this seems totally unfair to me as nobody advised me when I phoned to tell them I was sick of the fact my benefits would be at risk and it has taken them this long to tell me.
Cant get another appointment until next thursday now so once again am facing a complete money mess up and further inconvenience. Is there anything I should be doing about this??
Hi Sixthspirit
I have also been messed about by the JSA/IB depts.
Have you tried claiming IB again due to your illness flaring up? If you read my thread JSA/IB help needed you will see that sometimes they do allow you to re-claim.
Hi bbch60,
I was on IB for a completely different complaint and so cant really reclaim. It just seems astonishing to me how incompetent these advisor's can be and this time it has caused me huge hassles, even if there was nothing I could do about my claim being closed down if they had informed me back when then by now it could have been up and running again.
