Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Re: help - been sent a letter re court & bailiff action for something I know nothing about....
The letter was dated 21/7/08 and says I have until 23/7/08 to sort it out or else they will serve me with court papers etc.
So, what's the name of the company? Can you scan what they've sent you, post it here for others to see, offer advice ... As to the above in qoutes ... and the amount of time you've got left to respond ... can I stop laughing now?
Re: help - been sent a letter re court & bailiff action for something I know nothing about....
The letter doesnt give me much time to sort it out does it really?!?!
Okay, it was the absurdity of the timing I was laughing at not you ... Because it is an absurdity and I've seen some absurd things on DCA/creditors letters trust me on that.
So, take a deep breath ... this appears to be what is known around here as a 'threatogram'. And it certainly lives up to it's reputation ... apart from breaking probably every OFT guideline on fair debt collection there is. Others here will help with what to do next.

Apart from that ... I can find nothing called Action Unlimited, Liverpool ... on a quick search. Name doesn't ring a bell ... though, I am not as acquinted with names. However, not every DCA advertises so openly, or I am looking in the wrong places on Google.

Anyway, given they have spelt your address incorrectly ... is it possible they are either fishing or someone lived at your address, they are sending it to the last known address ... just mentioning that cos ages ago I had a 'fishing' letter ... they addressed it to 3 house eg 2-5 in my row at the time ... cos they didn't know which house I was in ... hoped it would reach me ... Only other thing to think of ... is it addressed to you personally?
Oh, BTW ... as it's from a DCA as you say ... they cannot send bailifs to your home. Not without a court's say so.

Yes addressed to me personally. They just spelt my the village where I live wrongly but got everything else right.
I'm wondering if someone else got some work done and gave my details in? If that happened what could I do??

I'll ring first thing tomorrow and post what happens. I'm still annoyed about the 2 days to sort it out (well zero days really - I have to sort it tomorrow otherwise I get a court summons )

Curious ... as I said they don't always advertise their presence ... but popping that address into google ... nadda. Can't even find 'Caton Chambers' . Nor reference to that specific PO box.

At the bottom of the page it says this:
registered under the consumer credit act 1974 Harold Bishop TA Action unlimited license number 352735
chief office: 48-52 penny lane, liverpool, l18 1dg
Re: help - been sent a letter re court & bailiff action for something I know nothing about....
In desperation tried Multimap ... came up with 'Camber, Rye, East Sussex'. I suspect, though, that's because it contains the wording 'ChAmBER' more than anything. Not a clue, otherwise ... or even why it would display that location.
However, perhaps if you suspect someone has given your name ... I'd maybe not phone the company ... it's what they want after all ... hence the tone of their absurdly written letter ... if you were to get a court summons ... based on that length of time to pay, no previous correspondence as you say ... well, not gonna look good is it? For them.

Ignore last post, didn't see yours ... browser trouble ... According to Google that address is an 'Accountants (Office & Administration). A chartered surveyors, well lots hang out there including a lettings company, member of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce & Industry ... that will be their registered address you've got. Seems a load of different people hang out there but all with accountant or monetary related business/affairs.

You can assume that...but its well known of DCA's to fake such documents when the court actually knows nothing about it.
