    Default Dodgy Used car dealer???

    Hi there

This is my first post so i hope someone can help. My brother bought a car three weeks ago from a used car dealer. The car was priced £4300 but he knocked him down to £4000. He brought the car on 19/06/2008, the next day he picked it up and had to drive from derby to gatwick for his holidayicon in his new car, on the way down his car broke down and subsequently he missed his flighticon and had to fork out £200 for another one.
On his return three days later the car was towed back to the dealer who said the head gasket had gone and he had done the damage by driving it.

They claimed the warranty he should have had was invalidated because he knocked them down on price even though the invoice said all cars come with a 28 day warranty. The best they could offer him was £3200 back for the car, which meant he basically paid £800 to have a car for four days which would not drive. he accepted their offer because he's not a campaigner like me but i feel that surely this is not right! Can anybody offer any advice??

    regards

I don't know where he stands now as he has accepted their offer. I would definatly report this to Trading Standards. I believe the warranty should of still stood even though he was given a discount unless the paperwork said differently.

It is indeed a shame he accepted thier offer - he is entitled to have his purchase price refunded, notwithstanding any nonsense about knock-down prices or him damaging it by driving it. It would be an open-and-shut case if it ever got to court.

I strongly suggest that he reports this dealer to Trading Standards immediately!
