Hi there, I am new to this forum and really need some help. In April I visited a local Gym to cancel my daughters membership. The area where the gym is located had recently had new parking restrictions whereby you could only park there if you were visiting either the Gym, The Ice Rink, The Indian Restaurant or the Pizza Parlour. As I was visiting the gym I did not think there would be a problem. I was in the gym for about 10 minutes. I came out and drove home. When I arrived home I noticed a ticket on my windscreen it was from the private parking company that have been employed by the Ice Rink. It told me I was being fined £90 for unlawfully parking. I immediatley phoned the gym and explained what had happened. They told me that lots of their members had had problems that week and that they were trying to sort something out with the Ice Rink. They told me they would give me a letter to prove I was lawfully parked. I fetched this letter from them and then sent it with a covering letter to the Appeals Department address given on the ticket. This was on 15 April 08 and until today I had heard nothing, so I presumed they understood that a mistake had been made and I was parked lawfully. However I have today received a letter stating that I was unlawfully parked and I have got to pay the amount within 7 days else further charges will be added. They have also said at the end of their letter that they will not enter into any further correspondence in this matter. I really dont know what to do. Any help would be really really appreciated.
They think you are an easy touch smiller, don't continue to let them think that, drop them a line telling them to get stuffed and enclose in it a bill for the postage and your time, tell them they have 7 days to pay up or it will increase.

The matter is a bit more complicated since you have written to them and admitted parking there at the time, but I would still not pay even if it goes to Court you have a good chance of getting off.

G&M in light of what smiler said about it being a shared car park with the gym and him holding a letter of authority to park from said gym, why would you only suggest he has a "good chance" of getting off rather than a pretty cast iron guarantee that he will?

Because we do not know what the signs or terms of usage contained.
The parking company involved are National Parking Management - based in London.
On the advice of a friend I have written back to them today advising again that I will not be paying the fine and that I do not want to engage in further discussionw with them either. I hate these sort of things though, I will worry about it now until it is sorted out.
itl take a while, but they will back down, they will probably send it to a debt collection agency to try and scare you, but just send them a copy of your correspondence outlining that it was in dispute, and they cant collect on a disputed acct
