Default Can anyone help with a central ticketing fine

    Hi there

Has anyone had any battles with central ticketing?

Two weeks ago, I parked my car outside my own flat where I have my own permit and received a ticket from central ticketing. Problem being my ticket wasn't on display, (i was daft and hadn't put it on the dash as i don't have a window display for it yet).

I appealed to the company providing them with a copy of my valid permit asking them to dismiss the fine.

Ive just received a letter from them saying my appeal has been unsuccessful as the restrictions in place at this location state that a permit must be displayed clearly. If i don't pay soon the charge will go up to £135 plus adminicon charges!

Does anyone know if i can still challenge this?
    Any help would be great

Yes you can. Central Ticketing are well known to these forums (use the search facility and enter Central Ticketing). This is little more than a [problem].

You don't have a ticket - you have an invoice for an alleged breach of contract. It has no more authority than that.

Have a read of the Private Parking Charges guide in the stickies section. Also have a read of the template letters What to do if you wrote first.

£135 for a minor breach of a contract sounds like a penalty charge to me and is therefore un-enforceable under existing case law.

Add that to the fact that you have a permit and they are on very dodgy ground.

Did you sign anything that said a permit had to be on display or merely that you had to have one? Do their signs say anything about it? If they don't then there's no contract anyway. Not that much of their contract is enforcable anyway.

Whatever you do don't engage with their appeals process again. They are not impartial or fair. At the end of the day they have to decide if they want to get paid. Which do you think they'll choose?

Some on these forums advocate ignoring all communications from these companies others suggest writing a letter back denying the debt and then ignoring. The choice is yours. Personally I'd do the latter and then ignore anything else short of court papers.

There is no 'appeals process'. It's a private company with no powers whatsoever.

    • do not pay
    • do not contact them again
    • ignore any letters you receive, no matter how threatening
    • they will go away after 4 or 5 letters (maybe a bit longer because you contacted them and know there's a fish at the end of the hook)
    • they will not take you to court

Ignore them and get on with your life.

I imagine the way this was "resolved" was that the person ignored Central Ticketing who then just gave up because they knew there was no case to answer and the motorist didn't owe a penny.

Of course we can. You are taking these clowns too seriously. They are not the police or the council, but just a bunch of chancers who try and scare people into paying. If you look here at the Central Ticketing letter chain, you can see all their "threats" which just fizzle out if you ignore them. You case is no different to all the dozens of others that are featured on here.
