    Default Smile? Petulant overdraft withdrawal

Hi everyone. Just joined this site after a period of unhappiness with Smile. When we first joined them I couldnt beleive how great they were. Recommended them to everyone I knew. Then I got post natal depression and couldnt work. My partner was main breadwinner so wasnt end of world but made things tight. Started going tiny amounts over od limit and then the snowballing of charges started. Despite several phone callsicon explaining situation they constantly refused to show a human element to us. Last month I complained about the charges of the account. They paid some of them back. Then today I get a secure message informing me that after reviewing account they are withdrawing our overdrafticon facility. Its not even half of our monthly income. I was considering starting the process of reclaiming all of the charges after reading some of this site. Now however I am scared by their petulance. I cannot believe that the withdrawal of the facility is not directly related to me complaining. Can anyone bolster my confidence?

Don't worry about Smile withdrawing your overdrafticon facility, they will try and make things awkward for 'customers' who complain. My advice to you would be, write a letter of complaint to their complaints department asking them to detail EXACTLY why they withdrew your overdraft facility. Then start the ball rolling by requesting a DPA print-out from them, once you have that follow the guidelines in the FAQs and claim every penny of YOURS that Smile have taken from you in illegal charges, be positive!

Hi Pinkmama. Smile have actually been about the most reasonable bank over claiming back charges. The few accounts where they have taken action seem to have been over other issues, but I have not seen one case of retaliatory action because of claiming back charges. I am sure the withdrawal of your overdrafticon won't be because you complained.

You can prevent action on your account by placing it in dispute. They cannot take further action on your account until the dispute is resolved, but I don't know if it is too late to prevent the overdraft being withdrawn. Just reply to their email (keeping a copy) saying that you understand that the charges on your account are unlawful and you are placing it in dispute, and as theshow says, ask exactly why your overdraft is being removed, if they have not explained it clearly. Then follow the normal process to reclaim your charges.

When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
