Hi all,
On friday, Iplan to fly from Glasgow to Belfast to pick up a used bike. I then plan returning to the mainland on a ferry.
Can anyone tell me what's involved in re-registering my bike on the mainland and whether the Northern Ireland MOT will be valid here on the mainland. Any info greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Davie.
Re: Importing a used bike from Northern Ireland???
No, afraid it isn't.
Make sure you get the DVLNI V5C form, and you need to take this to the West Campbell Street DVLA branch office in Glasgow. Assuming it is taxed, take a photocopy of the tax disc and they'll give you a form for first time GB registration of a used vehicle. You'll also need valid insurance.
You will be asked if you want the vehicle to have a GB registration number, or keep the existing NI one - I'd go for the latter. No other cost is involved. If there is no road tax, you will need to pay for its renewal and have an MoT certificate (if required).
Re: Importing a used bike from Northern Ireland???
After the Bishopsgate bomb the City of London Police where the 1st to operate ANPR cameras inside their so called 'ring of steel' & as a result they also caught up with a number of wanted felons thanks to these cameras
Re: Importing a used bike from Northern Ireland???
However these days the targeting of an NI registration simply because of ANPR would be a Human Right violation. When you consider that these plates are freely traded, and indeed have a considerably higher value because they do not proclaim the vehicle's age, make these highly desirable. It is nobody's business how old your vehicle is, and you've every legal right to opt out of this stupid system should you wish.
As for Bishopsgate, just think - all they need do now is use a UK regitered car and they get away scot free...? Somehow, I doubt it.
