    Default Irresponsible Lending!!!!

    Hi All

I was a single parent on benefits yet the bank allowed me a loan of £11,000. The loan was taken out under duress, pressure from controlling boyfriend at time. I never seen much of the money as he basically had control. Foolish I know but I was in a terrible situation I am now thankfully out of. So why the bank allowed me into so much debt in my situation I will never know. Is it possible to use this in negotiations?

    Many Thanks

Same thing happened to my sister. She wasn't working and her husband had a bad credit rating so the bank suggested putting the loan in my sisters name. Hubby now done a bunk leaving her with a large loan she cannot afford. He was not even a guarentor on it.
I am very interested to know if the answer to your post.

    Hi Wino

Much same as myself, only I was not married to the control freak. It was all in my name. Now I am in a situation I simply cannot afford payments. My outgoings are more than my income and that is just to live. I am a working single parent just keeping herself afloat so I am lost as what to do. Anyone any suggestions? I have not been in contact with the bank since I moved to get away from the whole situation. Silly I know but I was terrified to say the least. Took all the courage I had to get away from him.

    Thanks

If they have indeed lent you money irresponsibly then they will be in breach of the Banking Codeicon. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...de-2008-a.html

I think that you should SARicon them and find out everything which they have on file about you and then go from there.

Thank you so much bank for your advice. I will do that as soon as I can afford the £10 to send as that is a lot to me on my very tight budget. I dread to think what they will send as I had banked with them for ocver 20 years, be similar to a yellow pages

It is ridiculous the way they behave, despite everything that has happened to me (wife run up several credit cards, huge loan, remortgaged house, all behind my back, was a week from going to court for repossession ... which is when I found out about everything) I did slightly regret cutting up all of my wifes credit cards and not keeping one going as particularly getting stuff online with my Maestro Bank Card was sometimes difficult and I had to keep using my fathers visa which was a pain. Anyway, as I was going abroad too I thought I would chance my arm online with a firm neither of us has ever had dealings with just expecting rejection ..... week later have card with £200 limit. Have used it for a few bits and pieces and paid it off in full every month as you should (unlike wifey), a few months later without asking I have another £2k added to the limit automatically ..... I need to ring IF I don't want it !! ....... and they wonder why they are in the mess they are in ????

Exactly Harry, I admittedly applied for the huge loan under pressure from controlling boyfriend hoping bank would turn me down, unfortunately they accepted and money was there same day. when asking reason for loan I said to buy car and clear credit card which I was not allowed to do when money was there. Maybe some people out there will say it was my own my fault, but nobody knows how bad a situation and mess I was in at time, always had do what that swine says. Thankfully now I am out it but there is no way I can pay this back, hence why I was asking could I possibly ask bank to write debt off due to circumstances? Up until that time of insanity I had an excellent relationship with my bank, unblemished record. Sorry for babbling on but I feel better when I come on here for a rant

    Any suggestions folks?

    Many Thanks
