Truckers set to cause havoc on motorways in the Northwest
Truckers are planning a 'go slow' convoy on the three major motorways in the North West tomorrow. 14/6/2008
The lorry drivers, protesting against the high cost of fuel are expected to set off from the Lymm truck stop on the M6 in Cheshire at 9am.
The convoy is expected to reduce traffic to a crawl for most of the day as it is expected to travel north to J35 for Carnforth in Lancashire on the M6, before turning round and heading back to Lymm, arriving there around 3pm.
Police are warning motorists that the top speed of the convoy will be around 40mph, and could cause significant problems for the whole of the area, as the truckers are expected to use the M56 and M62 as well as the M6.
Officers from four police forces will be monitoring the demonstration and people planning on using the motorways in the region tomorrow are being warned that several junctions of the M6 may have to be closed temporarily to allow the convoy to pass.
The protest will be taking place a day into the four day strike by Shell oil tanker drivers, therefore adding yet more pressure to the oil industry and the government. The UK is not the only country fed up with the high cost of oil as there are currently daily protests across Asia and Europe.
