    Default Returned Direct Debit

Hi everyone,I hope someone can advise me.
We have recently renewed our house insurance cover with paymentshield. They sent us a letter of comfirmation of how much the cover was but no date of when the direct debiticon was due ,and now they informed us that they tried to take the first payment out on the 1st of this month and the bank returned it due to insuficiant funds.so the bank has charged us £35 because of paymentshields mistake.I phoned p.s up to ask why they hadn,t informed us of the date they intended to take our payment, but they just said that it automatically continues to be the same date as before which was the 1st of every month, then i said that they still should have informed us of the date that it was due.but they wouldn,t listen .I,m sure they are supposed to inform me under the direct debit garuantee.any advice would be appriciated ,thanks. angnnig

The guarantee says "If there is a change in the amount to be paid or the payment date, the person receiving the payment (the originator) must notify the customer in advance."
