Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Thanks to these forums I didn't pay 4 "pcn's" from parking companies. It's not often on here we see the story from beginning to end but I have one so thought it would be useful to list.
I moved into a rented flat in Jun 07 when our house got flooded in Gloucester. We paid our rent and applied for a parking permit for the flat we rented that was part of our lease. During our tenancy we got no less than 30 emails from the company claiming random reasons why we didn't have a permit from "we don't issue them" to " we sent it yesterday" to "you now have 5" all in broken english. I gave up asking after a while as we were parked legally in our own space and just ignored their demands.
We got 4 tickets in total before I started parking on the road. The only reason I did so is because I was worried that they would turn up with a tow truck otherwise. If I hadn't have been dealing with a flooded house at the time I would have continued and fought them all the way.
Anyway, on to the strategy. It's nothing magical. In hindsight I should have just ignored them. What actually happened was I sent one appeal, before seeing this site then sent them a "leave me alone your charges are bogus and I'll file harrasment charges!" letter and they went away. That was it, I've never heard from them again.
There's one last funny, and don't worry about the details as the car was scrapped a while ago and I now live at an address not connected with it. Can you spot the difference between ticket 1 and 2? Do the exclamation marks increase the fine?
I've tried uploading the jpg's elsewhere but these are the best I can get t show - maybe a moderator can help?
