    Default Charges for use abroad

    Hi everyone, first post from me.
    My son has been travelling abroad recently using his debit card.
    Lloydsicon Bank have charged him £1 for every time he drew money from a cashpoint and £2 for every purchase. Are these charges able to be challenged?

    I doubt it. These are charges for specific services received (i.e. foreign exchange interchange), rather than penalties levied for breaches, so they are valid, in legal terms.

    Whether they're good value for money is another thing, however.

    No these can't be challenged.

    For future reference... Nationwideicon don't charge for using the card abroad. I have a spare account with them just for this reason.
