we have a landrover Discovery (02reg) bought from main dealership in october it currently has 50,000 miles on it. Broke down on friday apparently it is the third injector and surprise surprise it is apparently not covered by the warranty. Having looked through the very misleading warranty booklet there is no mention about whether it is or isn't covered. It is only the dealership that is saying it isn't. Do we have any where to go on this in terms of getting them to pay for it or should we just cough up and take the hit.
Re: Landrover Warranty Problems - urgent help needed
whos warranty is it, the garage, land rover, warranty company? did you pay extra for it or was it free. If it is not specifically excluded then it should be covered! Do have to cliam via insurance?
Re: Landrover Warranty Problems - urgent help needed
Since 2005 when dealers had to become FSA authorised to offer warranties, a lot of the unauthorised one's instead started offering dealer backed 'guarantees', which got around the legislation because they were not strictly speaking 'insurance' products underwritten by proper insurance companies.
The problem with these is that the customer is left with what they think is a warranty but is actually only valid with the selling dealer and repairs are entirely up to his discretion. The guarantee also relies on the dealer actually staying in business for the duration of the 'cover'
To be fair I am unsure exactly what type of cover you have got, or indeed who it is with, but the confusion surrounding these issues with customers is obvious. The FSA do not appear that interested, being so preoccupied with PPI as they are
Assuming it is a genuine warranty you have purchased, please contact the warranty company direct and hear their explanation for the lack of cover directly - without the added flannel from the dealer. It may be that there are two levels of cover and the faulty part is only covered under the higher level product, in which case if you were not offered this product you could go back to the dealer.
