Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I received a couple of missed calls on my mobile and a couple on my landline today (no messages left). I called the number back and it went dead.
However, after doing a Google search on the number I find it is the number for Red Castle Debt Recovery (or something similar) in Worthing. I'm currently on a dmp with CCCS and as far as I am aware, all of my debts are still with the original creditors and I've received no notification from any creditors that my debts have been sold on to DCA's. I have no wish to speak to them on the phone but as I have a relative that lives in Worthing, I did try calling the number back but it went dead.
The Google search also showed that Red Castle mainly collect utilities arrears and as I am not, and never have been, in arrears with my utilities, I'm not sure what they are all about.
If a creditor has sold my debt to a DCA, should I have been informed?
What I think the phone calls are are a phishing trip by the DCA and should be ignored. If they do manage to get through to you on the phone refuse to give any personal details and request that everything is done in writing
Any typos spelling mistakes are due to leprechauns in my keyboard they move the letters around sometimes (amended just for Bookie)
I offer help and advice in good faith, based on my knowledge and experience. I am NOT a legal or financial expert. There are many CAG members and site team who are better qualified. Please do not make major decisions based on my advice alone.I do not give advice via P.M's. If anyone can correct my mistakes or improve on my advice, please do.
Thanks again drob. I've sussed out who they are collecting on behalf of. Had a letter today from them and they are collecting for First Plus. I do have a small unsecured loan with 1st Plus which is covered under my dmp. At least I know who they are now.
