Default law regarding yellow line markings

    Hello Everyone!
Does anyone know where I can find a clear statement about the law on yellow line markings, specifically information about T-bars to mark the beginning/end of a single yellow line. I am due to be up in front of the independent adjudacator in early June and I'm still not sure about the law regarding such markings. I parked with my rear wheels clearly on a yellow line which started underneath a speed bump on which my front wheels were parked. I had understood that the single yellow line was not legally marked if there was not a visible T-bar denoting it's start and that is why I parked there. The council are also saying that the road in which I parked was within a controlled zone so no such markings are needed. The road has no signs saying that it is a controlled zone. Does anyone know about the relevance of this either?

When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition, they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to have happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI Insurance has been sorted. Now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.

The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions are the legal bible.

    Regulation 11 states:

    11. - (1) Subject to the provisions of these Regulations, a sign for conveying information or a warning, requirement, restriction, prohibition or speed limit of the description specified under a diagram in Schedules 1 to 7, Part II of Schedule 10 and Schedule 12 to traffic on roads shall be of the size, colour and type shown in the diagram.

    (2) The signs shown in diagrams 515.1, 515.1A, 515.2, 1012.2, 1012.3, 1049.1 and 7102 shall be of the size, colour and type shown in the two parts of those diagrams.

    (3) In Schedule 6, a road marking shown in a diagram as a horizontal line indicates a marking to be laid on the carriageway of a road transversely, and a marking shown as a vertical line indicates a marking to be laid on the carriageway of a road longitudinally, to the flow of traffic, except so far as the nature of the diagram or the caption to the diagram indicates that it may or should be laid in another direction.

    (4) The road markings shown in diagrams 1055.1 and 1055.2 shall be white, silver or light grey in colour.
This is the diagram for single and double yellow lines. You will note that it says variations: None

Thank you very much for your response. In my case, the council's representation rests on 2 points. Firstly, they state the principal of 'de minimus non curant lex' and secondly, they state that since the road in which I parked falls within a Controlled parking zone, the yellow lines will only be broken up by parking bays within the zone. This is the part I am unsure of as there are definitely no signs at any of the entrances to the road to say that it is within a CPZ.

The signs do not have to be at the entrance to each and every road within a CPZ, but they do have to be on every road that is an entrance to the zone

In other words you can have a housing estate of say 20 roads, but if there are only 2 roads that allow access to the estate, only those roads need CPZ signs

If you have a good video camera fit it to your front windscreen and travel on all roads into and out of this location where you parked, and film the road as you go.
I did this on Saturday looking for a sign for a PCZ.
You may have to go quite along way to start/finish you video capture to find and film the PCZ signs.
That is of course if there is the required TRO/documentation to support the CPZ. If they aint got paper work to support this CPZ, and no signs for the lines you are onto a winner.
