Dont know if this should be here, move if not. l have secured finance through Duncton for a new car. Ive paid my deposit and the car is ready, all that remains is for Duncton to pay the finance. l recently called the dealership and was told that Duncton where going to send someone to fit a tracker. Not a problem, but no one told me. l made a few calls to find out which type so l could put it on my insurance and maybe get it cheaper. But noone would say anything. l called today to find out what the hold up was with getting the tracker on as the car was ready. l mentioned to the person l was speaking to that there was nothing in the agreement that a tracker would be fitted. It seems that the dealership drop the ball by telling me that a tracker was going to be fited. l was told that Duncton could cancel the agreement as l shouldnt have been told a tracker was being fitted. Now lm a bit peed off. l can understand that Duncton are trying to protect there interest. But in the long run should they have done this and where do l stand?
I dont see why they have not told you about the tracker! I know it is their car until paid for if HP, but if stolen, you would claim under your insurance and this may make your premium cheaper. I dont se the benefit to them really as you are responsible the car and any loss. i.e. if stolen and not recovered, the insurance will pay out for the car but not to the value of the loan, that will still be your debt.
Also, I would insist the dealer to tell me exactly what was being fitted and if it is a Thatcham approved and registered tracker so that you can indeed reduce your insurance premium.
You could even hint that if they don't tell you then you will pull out of the deal.
If the car was stolen, one of the first things the police would wish to know was if it had a tracker fitted, if you don't know then they wont know and will just log it as another stolen car and not get the tracker activated so they can find it.
