I bought a second hand 52 plate citroen saxo five weeks ago from a local dealer. The car has been fine apart from tonight when the engine diagnosis light flashed on, according to the manual it means there's a fault in the fuel injection, arrgh!! trust this to happen just outside the warranty!
Now I know I'm probably wasting my time but is it worth taking it back to where I bought it to try? as I'm sure this is not a wear and tear problem and should have been noticed in the MOT it had before I bought it?
Re: Car playing and warranty ended 1 week ago! help!
The MoT does not include the fuel system except for leaks and corrosion.
Any warranty given is an extra and not the be all and end all of the dealers responsibilities.
You say the light 'flashed' on, has it gone out again or is it still on?

Yeah the warranty was a month, seemed to be the same as all other garages on a second hand car. The light flashes on when the engine is switched on, then goes off, but I only noticed it starting to do it yesterday, I'd never seen the symbol before that's why I looked in the manual.
I took it in today and the dealer has kept it to have a look at it, so will find out later if they find anything.
Re: Car playing and warranty ended 1 week ago! help!
I suspect the 'warranty' you mention is the one that dealers give which agrees that if faulty you can return the car within 1 month without quibble
That aside any product you buy has to be of merchantable quality & here it does not appear to be the case............
Being of merchantable quality also means it must last for a reasonable period without major fault......& just 1 month ain't gonna hack it
After returning the car (within 6 months) under the reverse burden of proof you have 2 principal choices
1.Request that it be repaired to your complete satisfaction & no cost to you
2.Request a replacement of equal value
Whatever you choose the dealer has little option but to comply as I doubt the fault you describe can be the result of any negligence on your part
Whatever you do until the fault is diagnosed & repaired do not drive it (whether the light is on or off) because if you do with a known fault the dealer may claim that the damage has been made worse by you & demand some sort of payment
Re: Car playing and warranty ended 1 week ago! help!
I'm confused re the engine diagnosis light thing...it comes on when i switch the engine on, then disappears but I've never seen it before yesterday.
As we are friends with the dealer and I would prefer things to not become awkward, if he comes back to me and says there is nothing wrong, should I get a second opinion?

Jenni when you say "it then disappears" do you mean within moments of starting the engine. If so that's what it's meant to do.
Have you checked to make absolutley sure it is the 'engine management' warning light & not either the oil or generator light.........or even the seatbelt warning light.....all of which will come on at the outset then switch off as soon as the engine is started except the seatbelt light which will switch off after you secure your belt

Where does the OP state that it comes on 'after'? Post #6 appears to clarify the 'problem'.
All cars have an engine management light nowadays and assuming that it goes out within a few seconds of starting the everything appears normal.
