It is not a silly question for those who reclaim from Egg debit interest accrued on unlawful charges.
Say £500 Egg balance is made up of £300 purchases and £200 unlawful charges. The approximate £10 monthly debit interest will have to be carefully apportioned between accrual from purchases (£6), and accrual from charges (£4), for claimants who carefully reclaim only such debit interest as is visibly recorded on Egg monthly statements - what I call Demonstrable Interest .
As time goes on computation of DI becomes complicated. Say Tal pays in £70 monthly, but it is unclear what Egg rules say about incoming payments, in what order payments wipe out the outstanding debit balance comprised of:

Sorry to raise such an old thread but a classic case of a newbie searching through old posts.
I have an Egg card which I haven't actively used for over two years. I have made no purchases or transfers on this account but I still get hit with this interest. I know that it's probably a hidden charge but how can I be charged 'Merchandise Interest' when I have made no transactions?
