Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.

a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Long time reader, first time poster I'm currently battling with GE Money for my PPI charges, as many other people are. I've been scouring the threads here for hours now for some more info about the process. Here's where I'm upto:
So today I filled in the complaint form, but after looking over these forums (so much so my head is spinning!) I'm not convinced the FO can help me as my policy was sold in 2002. I'm not willing to give up just yet of course, as its still early days!
So where do I go from here - there seems little point in writing to the Ombudsman if they're just going to tell me GE money were not regulated by them at the time. Surely they must have been regulated by someone though? I've looked on their website and there are mentions of the FSA and the FLA so should I direct my complaint to them instead, or just proceed with the 'Court Route' ?
Any guidance is very much appreciated and I promise to keep this thread updated so that anyone who needs info on claiming from GE Money will have the info for future use!
Oops, just re-read my 2nd letter and they have actually referred me to the FLA in that one and said that the Ombudsman was not the right body (due to having bought the PPI in 2002).
In case anyone else is in the same situation I am, the FLA can be found at:
FLA (Financial & Leasing Association)
Imperial House
15 - 19 Kingsway
London
WC28 6UN
Tel 020 7420 9661
Guess who'll be getting a letter from me in the next few days?
If you havn't made contact with the fos then it would be worth a telephone call for advice. Although the FSA ruling did not come into force until 14 jan 2005 The FOS if you check with them, may well look at complaints within the 6 year statute of limitations.
You have nothing to lose calling the FOS.
Best though to check out the relevant authority to see if your bank was a member, I found out the RBS were not listed within the FLA.
FOS Telephone Number is 0845 080 1800 or 020 7964 0500 if you use the 020 number the option on voice prompt is 3.
