VE10 ticket failiure to display tax (tax disc never issued)
today a police officer issued me a ve10 failure to display and this is the harsh reminder that although i bought my tax online 2 months ago and saw the money leave my account, the disc never turned up.
iv phoned the dvla they sed they sent it STANDARD 1st class. they clearly didnt or royal mail have lost it
its not my fault i cant display one why should i pay £60 for the incompetance of one of these partys
Re: VE10 ticket failiure to display tax (tax disc never issued)
It is an offence to fail to display the vehicle excise licence, regardless of whether or not you actually have it. Complaining that it got lost in the post is not going to help your situation, especially as it was 2 months ago that you applied for the tax disc and you have not chased up its non appearance within that time.
The only consolation for you is the fact that as you have paid for the road tax, and DVLA should have a record of that, that you will not have a follow up action from DVLA demanding back tax from you.
Re: VE10 ticket failiure to display tax (tax disc never issued)
DVLA have a simple policy regarding Royal Mail: If you send something in the post to DVLA and it gets lost in the post, it's your responsibility. If DVLA send something in the post to you and it gets lost, it's your responsibility.

I fail to see that reasoniong,
if it gets lost in the post or it is stolen in transit, how is it your fault.
if youve paid the money and it fails to turn up, what are you meant to do.?
Re: VE10 ticket failiure to display tax (tax disc never issued)
Don't worry, I fail to see that reasoning too. I have had many a spat with DVLA, and this is the position they take. I didn't say that I agree with it!
Re: VE10 ticket failiure to display tax (tax disc never issued)
It does say on the site that if the disc hasn't arrived within five days you are to contact DVLA.
It also reminds you that it is an offence not to display so not to apply too close to the expiry date.

Re: VE10 ticket failiure to display tax (tax disc never issued)
Because it says not to leave it to close to the expiry date to apply, it also says:
If the tax disc has not arrived after 5 working days, please telephone us between 8am to 8.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5.30pm Saturdays on 0870 850 4444. When you make the call, please have the Reference Number available and choose option 4 then option 1.
So if it hadn't arrived after five days, you should have given them a ring.
You can apply from the 15th day of the month it expires.

coniff, not arguing just enquiring
so it doesnt arrive after five days, you give them a ring, etc and it still doesnt turn up you then get a ticket for not dispalying although youve paid ,what then.
sorry coniff I think ill go down the post office I have enough agravation as it is.
All my dealings with the dvla in the past has shown them to be inept at best and devoid of all common sense at worst. The system here when it goes wrong seems to place all the onus us as usual.

You got that bit wrong. They are one of the most successfull money raising departments of the government. With DVLA, you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent.
I wasn't getting at you nero just trying to explain that after two months, you will have no defence.

Point taken coniff
however on the ineptidude part, I knew someone who ended up in court twice for not displaying or obtaining a tax disk for that matter.
I witnessed the prossecutions arguement AND the defence . Honestly it was something out of a carry on film.
It ended with the magistrate calling the dvla inept due to complete incompetence, both cases were thrown out on technicalities.
Crappy record keeping or something.
