Tried that first but found nothing

plenty for business liability but nothing for simple building and personal liability of single garage to house car seem daft but most including Liverpool Victoria with whom I have house and car policies will not do it

I doubt you will find it with high street insurers, who generally offer the same type of ready made for the home or business packages. You may be better off making enquiries with a broker or looking towards specialists. I don't know any though (besides Lloyds, but be prepared to pay more than the garage is worth!)

Thanks for that and I think you are correct about cost think I just give up on it

May I ask if this is an attempt to gain no-claims until the price comes down to insure a car at a lower rate? It's just that this is an unusual request in terms of insurance - at least in the private sector.

Is it a garage on your home ground or away somewhere else. Is it a cherished car?

Garage is separated from home plot by about 100 feet not on same deeds

No the I have 70% no claim I simply dont like to have things not covered I thought my home policy covered at least public liability on it but on asking for confirmation was told this is not so subsequently if some one say tripped and and was injured on the space in front of the garage I could be liable

Hi Hamish,

I would ask your domestic insurer to add an endorsment to your main policy noting the garage is separate and at xyz address (If if has a separate address!), you'll also have to ensure that the reinstatement sum insured on buildings reflects both the house and the garage structures (On the assumption that you own the garage!). If they do this, it SHOULD also pick up the public liability aspect (Normally refered to as 'Family Liabilities'). They might charge an additional premium.

To arrange a separate liability cover will be prohibitive on cost, a minimum premium will apply.
