Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
1st october, brought Philips X67 11.1" Laptop w/ 1.06ghz dual core ULV, 1gb ram, 100gbhd, vista, magnesium construction and a reputed 5 hour battery that it almost lived upto (4hrs 45 mins light use). Covered it with 'pc performance' which was sold to me in the presence of my partner and verified by the manager that if it breaks it WILL be replaced with an 11" laptop so long as they still do an 11" laptop... It was £600
29th Jan, laptop suffered unfortunate accident where it fell off the desk and snapped both hinges...
30th jan laptop picked up,
31st jan text recieved to say they will expect parts within 5 working days and will expect a 10 working day turn around...
12 March (6 weeks), phoned up, where's my laptop? Still waiting for parts... write it off please and EMAIL vouchers to store because I need a pc asap...
16-20 hours of phone calls and waiting including ppl telling me to goto store and replacement... 4 days ago I phone up they say they sent vouchers but they never turned up... the sent me an indemnity form...
Yesterday went to store to Go mental as now been total of 12weeks or something - i.e. my whole second semester at uni, whats the point in having the laptop? And they finally with faxes of indemnity etc, get me a voucher code... But hang on, its for £450?????????
I ask the manager to match it to the only 11.1" laptop in store which happens to be EXACTLY the same - 11.1", Philips, magnesium and has 5 hour battery. The only differences are 2gb of ram, 160gb hd and 1.2ghx cpu... Its even £600 - the same price as my ofiginal laptop and when I mean identical... the battery (which I have a spare) is ALSO the same and I have 11" cases which cost ££ etc...
Well they blatently refuse to match it with a 12" ADVENT??? Its NOT the same spec... they said, yes it is - its an Ultraportable??? No it weighs 0.5kgs more is 12" not 11 (which makes a huge difference to size with these small laptops) It has a 3 hour battery? AND is made of plastic???????
How is this the same spec??? Well hours more time on phone and STILL no closer, what do I do>>>??? the advent would be useless to me and would also prob. break within 12 months as they are crapp...
Is this a SC court scenareo? What can I expect? Do I say that I will claim a refund for the price of the laptop>? And do I take the PC world store as the pc performance was mis sold or do I take coverplan>>?? Or both??
Ok please help I really need a computer fast.. You can only imaging how long this takes to type on a phone... lol
Re: More coverplan issues... PLEASE URGENT HELP...
cant really help much i never worked on the voucher side of things.
far as i can remember though they only do the vouchers to buy one of the same specifications i.e. ram hdd cpu etc, they dont take into account what they term "cosmetics" i.e. size what its made out of etc.
i know its stupid but ive had that same discusion on the phone a couple dozen times both with cmrs and cp as well once before being told it wasnt my job to argue ....
your best be is to try and go off the battery life insist on the same spec battery life, problem is they might say there both 4,000 mha batterys.
i can tell you what they will say if you argue the size issue they will say that your getting a screen size upgrade, then they'll go deaf
problem is that as with any company the vouchers take depreciation into account.
sorry just read over that not very helpful is it, get direct to coverplan 0870 600 1550 i think the number is if not the tech help will be able to give it to you. try arguing off the battery ize and weight issues there more liekly to listen to that

Cheers for the reply...
The point is that its an ULTRA portable, Ive tried explaining to them.,.. If I wanted a 12" laptop i'd have f'in brought a 12" laptop because its a LOT bigger... but I dident I paid more spesifically to have a 11" laptop... not a little more but about £200 more! And it was JUST to have 11" laptop and 5 hour battery... I couldent care less lol... On the website they have it says -0 SPECIFICATION - screen size 11.1" etc.. if thats not a specification I dont know what is... its also heavier then my 11" one and the metal case is not just cosmetic...
and a 5 hour battery is a 5 hour battery, how an argument that its 4400mah would hold up I dont know because some laptops get 1.5 hours not 5 out of that...
What I want to know is, they wont listen so whats the next step... who do I take to small claims or do I talk to trading stds or what do I do>??? I'm lost... and confused And ive even been crying over this... I cant stand it... I took me 3 YEARS to save enough for a computer... 12 weeks later it gets broken and now they want to give me a sh1t one back???

Sorry - I have not read your post. If you have already spoken to the manager, and they have not provided a reasonable response, then contcat Consumer Direct and ask for it to be referred to TS, mentioning specifically that you have spoken to the manager. Or if you can contact your local TS directly (use the search engine to type your local authority name followed by Trading Standards to get to you local auth's TS website which will tell you)
