Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I brought a used car at the end of Feb, noticed first problem on way home as the car smelt funny, presumed to be cheap air freshener so threw it away. Then noticed water in rear storage area (megane scenic), boot carpet soaking wet and water dripping through light. Then on a really cold day noticed the heating didn't work, fan did but no heat. Took car to local garage who gave us a list of problems including a few which would fail an MOT like rear bushes, bulbs, tyres and seat belt stalk, other things like head gasket, drive shaft and coil springs were also flagged up. 3 weeks later we returned to the garage we brought from and they said they would have a look. Another 3 weeks later we receive a call from them saying the car is ready for collection, but they haven't done most of the work only the minor things like bulbs and wipers oh yeah and a sunroof cartridge!
Does anyone know where we stand? VOSA dont want to know as its passed 28 day since the mot was done, but was that the garage stalling us? They said they have doubled checked and said the head gasket was fine, rear bushes were fine and we are not happy. We have one garage saying they would fail the car on the bushes and their garage says there are ok. What worries me is my garage have said the car is likely to cost about £1500 to get through next MOT.
Who do I believe the car is a family car for me, a toddler and a new baby, i want to know i'm safe.
Your best approach would be to take it for an MoT now and see what it fails on, it don't matter how long the current MoT has to run.
When does the current MoT expire ?
You are still withing plenty of time to take the car back and reject it, but if it should fail the MoT then they can have no argument with you.
With regard to the water leak in the rear, have you done an HPI check to see if it has been involved in a rear end accident ?

The car had a MOT on 26th Feb this year. We have given the car back to the sellers garage 3 weekes ago, they are now wanting us to pick the car up and are saying they have had the checked and to them they are ok and doesn't require a repair. How come the garages differ on what seems a big thing!
Before answering your question consider which, between the 2 garages, has the most to gain by claiming the car's OK............The garage that sold it............or the garage that didn't
We have given the car back to the sellers garage 3 weekes ago,
But was that a rejection of the car (I don't want it give me my money back), or for repairs.
Did you list all the faults on a piece of paper and give them asking that they correct everything on the list, or was this verbal complaints to the salesman ?

It started with a call 3 weeks ago, we told the sales lady what the local garage had stated was wrong with the car and he also printed of the list with the faults he found, he new we had no intention of having the work done at his garage and knew we would take back to buyer as it was under warranty and because we had only had car for 3 weeks. The sales lady said bring car back and they would sort it (wasn't in writing just verbal). 3 weeks later they phone and say that they are not doing most of the work coz their garage doesn't see fault. They now want to pick the car up tomorrow and I don't see I have a choice as they said they would charge me storage.
I thought, niavely that they would fit all faults but they have only done the minor ones.
Hiya what was the fault with the seatbelt stalk ? I ask as I was sold an accident repaired car which I was unaware until you guessed it leaks in the boot and an issue with the seat belts were the give away.
Have you done as previously suggested an hpi check ?
