Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I am here looking for advice hoping this is the right place to post. I am a german citizen who has lived in the UK for a period of two years, being employed by a Gloucestershire based college. During my employment i had a bank account with Lloyds TSB which i didn't close upon leaving the country, switching my base back to Germany permanently. It simply slipped my mind to do this. To make matters worse i also didn't leave my new address to have my mail forwarded to.
Now after 18 months i received a letter from Buchanan, Clark and Wells, informing me that i had failed to react to Lloyds TSB's request to clear the account. Without my knowledge and my thinking about this at all, some debt had accumulated due to the normal charges of account-keeping.
Now there is a sum of about 580 pounds (including accrued charges) to pay, with a deadline set tomorrow, thursday, april the third, before further legal measures are going to be taken.
My problem is simple: i do not have this kind of money at all at the moment, being a university student with not a real income to talk of.
Is there anybody here in this forum who is willing and able to advice me on how to proceed with this matter? Are there possibilities to make small payments on a regular basis? And what will be the likely consequences, if i let the deadline pass without further action?
I am a bit at a loss, and being in Germany right now doesn't make communicating with them exactly easy.
I am planning to return to the UK in september to take up employment which would enable me to pay off these claims easily. Would I have any difficulties to enter the country in the first place?
Any advice very welcome. I hope my english is sufficient to paint the picture of the situation I am in.
Thanks in advance!
