Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Bit of a story but here goes. I have a Sky Plus box and the Sky insurance ran out 1yr 6months ago with SKY.
Took insurance with Sateliite Direct Services. I know others had complaints but I have had no problems, they upgraded my box for free in Aug 07 when replacement went wrong. no problems since then.
Got call in Nov 07 from company claiming to be Satellite direct asking if wished to renew - said yes, advised would be £6 not £5 monthly and payments would now be quartely instead of monthly. Fine I said - renew it.
Got a call yesterday from Direct Satellite asking if wanted to renew insurance with them as no longer covered by them & did we have any issues? We said hang on we are covered by you - apparently not!
Turns out are covered by Sateliite Assured who pretended to be Satellite Direct - phoned them last night, they denied this of course. Asked for copy of conversation that took place on the renewal as remember specifically asking if were same company as surprised by payments method. I said would send a S.A.R - (Subject access request) to which the rude lady said under Data Protection Act as bank details were mentioned in that phone call it could not be provided. Asked to speak to supervisor (if he was one) who said to call their independant complaince dept - who apparently isn't independant as is paid and works for them
Hsve now cancelled DD with Assured and set up new one with Direct instead but Assured took their DD same day as found out about this - can I claim money back from the bank saying it was fraudulently taken?
Can anyone advise on this as am seething as how have been conned even if it is only for £72 which is £12 more then what the other company would have charged & wanted to stay with the origianal insurancers as were treated well
I am not sure if an indemnity claim can be issued as you did 'agree' to his payment.
Satellite direct were taken to court by sky in 2006 for misrepresenation, now other companys are doing the same to them.
I would write them a letter saying what you have said here that you misled into taking up a contract with them as you were led to belive you were renewing you contract with your present company and remember to send it recorded and giving them 14 days for a refund.
Did you give your dd details over the phone or were you sent a mandate to sign?

I agree with Ida, you agreed to the payment, even though you were mistaken as to who you were paying. I also have reservations about this 'insurance' as it has been often found that if you put the equivalent amount away every month, you've more than enough to pay for a local engineer if required, AND still have money left for a slap up Christmas meal.
For the record, my satellite system was installed in 2001 and apart from a replacement box (bought on ebay for £22) no other remedial action has been required. They way these firms fight between themselves to 'steal' customers shows how lucrative this business is. I'd suggest you use this to terminate ALL cover and pocket the difference yourself.
They asked me to give DD over phoen as we were moving all dd to new account. I had loads of problems with my Sky plus box when I was covered by Sjky - the last one that failed was one provdided by SKy who Satellite Direct replaced - when that went wrong they upgraded & replaced it with one with a bigger harddrive so yes we were please with them.I have read that they have been on Watchdog etc but to be fair I have had no problems with them and on both visits they came out next day and phoned me when on way as I work nearby. Can't really ask for more can I!

While some people like Buzby find it more economical not to have warranty others do as Buzby has been quite lucky where others sometimes can have faults frequently.
I have a steady supply of digiboxes and skyplus boxes that I pick up at local car boots from £5 - £10 and keep them for emergencies or give to family and friends that need them.
Anyway, get a letter drafted up and sent to SA and see what they have to say.

Then in Saturday's post was a cheque from them for the full amount we had paid. Wonder what they heard when they played back the recorded conversation then....
