Lightbulb Sales of Goods Act Vs Warranty

Hi all, I have read a few posts and was wondering if anyone can give me a hand with any advice.

I bought a car in September (Ford Focus) from a ford dealership. It came with a warranty for all mechanical and electrical faults for a year and purchased an extra 2 years on top of this.
Today I drove the car to town and on the way noticed a juddering in the engine and soon the Engine fault light lit up. I drove to the garrage which was close and explained this to them. They said it would cost £95 to do a diagnostic (plug the car in to a computer to get the fault code) then the warranty "may" cover the other costs. (other places do diagnostics for £35, but found out the ford dealership HAVE to do it for the warranty to be valid)

When buying the car I was told that the warranty would cover any problems. So tried to argue this point the woman told me that it was in the small print that diagnostics was not covered. They said i could book it in there or ring up and do it. So took it home and rang consumer direct who told me that the car was covered by the Sale of Goods act 1979 and to write a letter. Which i have started but need a little help on.

I will probably need a courtesty or insurance to coever me in my brothers car, can I ask for either of these and get it?
I can get a courtesy car with my warranty but then i would probably have to pay the diagnostics, and possibly more charges.

I sort of don't want to go with paying for the extra cost for the warranty (even though it may be for the best) simply because the garrage REALLY have annoyed me with their service/lies/attitude to post sales customers!

Thanks all for reading and I look forward to any help and advice!

    Dan

It will be written into the warranty if you are entitled to a courtesy car in the event of problems. You would not be entitled to compensation for insuring your brothers car if the choice of a courtesy car is available to you.
Have you checked the small print to see if the cost of the diagnostics is payable?
